Carlos Saura ~ Salomé ~ 2 DVD-PALs

Directed by Carlos Saura, with Aida Gomez (Spanish National Ballet) in the lead role, this film works from rehearsals into the drama itself in much the same way that Saura's Carmen did. The drama centers around Salome who, frustrated in her attempts to seduce John the Baptist, asks step-father Herod for the holy man's head in exchange for the voluptuous dance she has just performed for him. The music by Roque Banos is mesmerizing, performed by a mix of Flamenco and Middle Eastern instruments, and featuring Tomatito among others, and the choreography follows suit. Bonus features include a documentary featurette, photo gallery, etc. 86 minutes. PAL format. Can be played on PAL and multi-format players and most computers.
