Diana Navarro ~ Camino Verde ~ CD

Navarro revisits and tours the soundscapes of her musical youth, which was drenched in the Copla Española, with its peculiarly unforgettable melodies, lyrics, orchestrations.... And what an elegant production she turns in. As with Navarro's other records, I had my initial reservations about style, "flamenco-ness...." And then you get sucked in, and the deeper you go, the more you realize that you are in the presence of a truly exceptional artist, one who creates a new musical biosphere for every musical vision she chooses to explore. On this project, she nods reverently to many of the great singers and composers in the genre (Leon, Quiroga, Quintero, Piquer, Castro, Caracol, Valderrama, Molina, Farina, Jurado...). But Navarro and her band of collaborators have truly forged a fresh musical vocabulary for the project: pop and contemporary, timeless and deep.... Not to be missed.
