The Instrument's Family
Juan Hernandez Iranzo was born in Turis, Valencia, in 1948. At the age of fifteen he began his apprenticeship in guitar-building with luthier Francisco Esteve (father). He quickly learned and mastered the techniques of hand crafting traditional Spanish guitars according to the system and methods of the Guild of Spanish Luthiers.
He was soon certified as a “First Official” in guitar making, and became production manager at the Esteve workshop. For years he worked on the most high-end, deluxe models coming out of the Esteve workshop, until finally establishing himself as an independent luthier producing guitars under his own label.
Today, Hernandez works with only three or four additional craftsmen, producing a very limited number of guitars. These are all expertly hand crafted instruments, made with the finest seasoned woods, and beautifully finished with highly distinguished details like his rosettes, headstocks….
Most importantly, these Flamenco and Classical guitars are distinguished by their bright, clear tones, always supported by a strong, solid bass register. It is obvious that Mr. Hernandez’s guitars are finished with tremendous patience and care.
From the dazzling visual flourishes, to the inexplicably comfortable necks, to the seductive tones that float from them when you sound the first notes, Hernandez guitars are strangely magical instruments.
