Omar Bashir ~ Latin Oud ~ CD
If my ears were to guess, they would say that Bashir listens more to Paco de Lucia than to his illustrious ancestors. The production here ranges from plain to a bit cheesy, but the playing is fluent and unremittingly virtuosic, with Bashir exchanging improvisations with guitarists Andreas and Petz Ballnt, with Tar Gergo on cajon. Traditional pieces from Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq, a Gipsy Kings number, a couple of originals....
