Diana Navarro ~ Flamenco ~ CD & DVD
Navarro's vocal qualities and general esthetic are not what you might usually expect from a Flamenco Cantaora, but when she takes flight with one of her soaring melismas, it's immediately clear why so many call her the greatest living singer in Spain. And why so many aficionados have been clamoring for a Flamenco recording from her.So, having explored some unique and very personal musical directions on her previous CDs, Navarro finally turns back to the Flamenco she grew up singing, and does so in the most naked format possible: a live concert, recorded live at Sevilla's Teatro Quintero in July of 2011. Navarro is accompanied by Juan Antonio Suarez "Cano" and Antonio Campos on guitars. Campos, himself a singer, adds the occasional male vocal.Navarro revisits Cantes from moderns like Camaron and Morente, as well as older classic singers like Pepe Pinto, Nina de la Puebla, and Juanito Valderrama. En la Cabana Que Habito (Guajira), Deja Que Te Mire (Cantinas), Tinieblas (Milonga), Ni Contigo Ni Sin Ti (Cana), A la Bella (Cantes Abandolaos), Tangos del Antoni (Tangos), Padre Nuestro (Campanilleros), Cuplerias (Bulerias), Hiciste Sangre en Mis Labios (Fandangos), Sola (Media Granaina), and Amargura Dolorosa (Saeta, Seguiriya, and Martinete).
