Estrella Morente ~ Mujeres ~ CD

Estrella Morente's third record is a tribute to women: La Nina de los Peines, La Perla de Cadiz, La Repompa, and Carmen Linares from the Flamenco tradition; Imperio Argentina, Rocio Jurado, Chavela Vargas, Susana Rinaldi, Nina Simone and others widen the focus. While most of the pieces are based on Flamenco forms (Soleares, Alegrias, Bulerias, Tangos, Zambra, Taranta, Nana...), the set list also includes Estrella's interpretation of Brel's Ne Me Quitte Pas (a la Nina Simone), an Argentine Tango or two, and a couple of folky numbers with the Laudes del Albaicin ensemble. The production and sound are clean and uncluttered, with palmas driving most rhythms. Additional percussion by Bandolero, contrabass by Victor Merlo, piano by Leo Sujatovich and Ricardo Mino, and guitars by Rafael Riqueni and Montoyita. Booklet includes all letras.
