One of the year’s most remarkable films, this surreal animation about a Tour de France cyclist who is kidnapped and whisked off to Belleville (NYC) to race in a mob gambling parlor until he is rescued by his ever loyal little grandmother (who follows the gangsters across the Atlantic on a pedal-boat) and three wizened musical sisters she meets in the New World. Great music throughout, mostly in a driven Django-jazz style. Full of incredibly imaginative details, this is a film that can be watched over and over, and not to be missed.
