Gerhard Steingress ~ ...Y Carmen Se Fue a Paris ~ Book
Steingress' new book discusses the role of Paris in the development of Flamenco throughout the 19th Century. As artistic capital of the world, Paris was the ultimate stage for Spanish performers, and host to a long confrontation between the classic French Ballet and the Spanish Dance (Escuela Bolero, Regional dances, etc.). One fruit of this exchange was the origin of Flamenco as a concrete style. This well documented study thus illuminates the previously dark, uncharted waters of Flamenco's "hermetic" phase, and should add to Steingress' reputation as one of the leading Flamencologists of today. 214 pages, with B&W sketches and reproductions of period art.
