Cheikh Ahmed Zaitouni ~ Musique Andalouse de Tanger ~ CD

A master musician in the al-Andalus style, Zaitouni is from Tangiers and heads a formidable ensemble of singers and musicians. He and his ensemble give a traditional performance here of the beautiful Nuba al-Hijaz al-Kabir. The Nuba is a suite of musical movements that vary in rhythm, instrumentation, and style, but are all based on a single mode. This CD is a beautiful example of this performance genre, and a loud echo of the music one might have heard in Medieval Andalucia.
