Nass Marrakech ~ Bouderbala ~ CD
The core ensemble here is Moroccan, and takes its name from the word for a hermit who abandons the comforts of society to seek wisdom and discovery in solitude. Collaborators include Jorge Pardo on sax and flute (some of his more tasteful work here), Cuban pianist Omar Sosa, Bulgarian string players, Brazilian percussionists, and various African musicians. Together they evoke the beauty and mistery of Morocco through a music that, while based on the Gnawa tradition, defies boundaries.
